Our Fall’22 Handkerchief Collection is finally here!

I’m giddy with excitement to finally reveal all the handkerchiefs in our Fall Collection!

Are you ready? No need to wait any longer, I’m introducing you to each and every one of them stat.

The Bruno Handkerchief

Bruno’s Story

Our Bruno handkerchief was inspired by the protagonist of Mark Herman’s tragic film “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas,” released in 2008. Bruno, an eight-year-old German boy finds himself in occupied Poland with his family during the war and develops a friendship with another child who is inside a concentration camp nearby. His new Jewish friend wears a striped uniform, which Bruno innocently believes to be pajamas.

The Ettore Handkerchief

Ettore’s Story

This handkerchief was named Ettore, after Ettore Sottsass, who initiated the Memphis Movement in the eighties—a group of designers who were renowned to give a new life to terrazzo/granito—which this print subtly refers to with its unequal and colourful spots!

The John Handkerchief

John’s Story

The John hanky was inspired by the American John E. Brooks who, during a trip to England, attended a polo match and noticed the players’ unusual shirts, on which the collars were fastened with buttons to avoid any flapping during the match. Intrigued, John brought one back to America to get it replicated and that is what inspired the “polo collar” shirt that was released on the American market in 1896! Long story short, this polo shirt is what inspired the button-down shirt and later, the oxford cloth, which is what this lovely fabric reminds us of!

The Dave Handkerchief

Dave’s Story

Our Dave handkerchief gives a nod to the Stranglers’ song GOLDEN BROWN, written by keyboardist Dave Greenfield. This single, very unusual for a punk band, was a big hit and distinguished itself thanks to the harpsichord sounds reminiscent of baroque music (and that speaks to me, having grown up in a family of musicians!)

The Alber Handkerchief

Alber’s Story

The elegant Alber handkerchief is a nod to the bow ties that Alber Elbaz always wore, like the ones adorning this lovely handkerchief. At the head of Lanvin (Paris), Alber wore the most flamboyant and imposing bow ties. Impossible to dissociate him from this emblematic accessory!

The Lambda Handkerchief

Lambda’s Story

Featuring pretty red and blue chevrons, this beautiful handkerchief was named Lambda, after the Greek capital letter Lambda! This is actually the symbol we use lying down to represent chevrons in writing today.

The Helios Handkerchief

Helios’s Story

Our Helios handkerchief features tiny little black suns on white fabric, earning it the name of the sun god! In Greek mythology, Helios is the personified sun god—a young man of great beauty that can be seen in the sky on his solar chariot!

The Andrée Handkerchief

Andrée’s Story

The Andrée handkerchief reminded us of the small classic black and white tiles that were so popular in the Victorian era. In the 1980s, French architect Andrée Putman gave a new look to this classic flooring, revolutionizing the Morgan Hotel’s deco in NYC. Since that time, we find a lot of black and white tiling in typical American restaurants.

The Augustus Handkerchief

Augustus’s Story

Our black and white handkerchief named Augustus pays tribute to the scientist who invented the electrocardiogram in the 18th century. Yes, the pretty pattern that adorns this timelessly coloured handkerchief reminds us of this cardiological examination that has become essential today! 

The Stefan Handkerchief

Stefan’s Story

This cheerful handkerchief in indigo hues reminds us of optical illusions. It looks as if the white spots want to come out of the fabric! That’s why it’s called Stefan, in honour of Stefan Pabst. This German-born artist has acquired quite a reputation for creating very realistic drawings, including anamorphoses—surprising and intriguing trompe-l’oeil that seem to come to life when you look at them!

The Tom Handkerchief

Tom’s Story

This vintage looking handkerchief features a lovely floral pattern in warm shades, which reminded us of wildflowers. And if you’re familiar with Tom Petty’s popular song, you’ll figure out pretty quickly why it holds the name “Tom”!

The Jean Alexandre Handkerchief

Jean Alexandre’s Story

Do you remember the graph paper you used in math or science class? That crisp checkered pattern takes us back to the school benches, pencils in hand. I was fortunate to attend a French private school and they made us write on paper with squares of 0.8 cm, cut horizontally into four spaces of 0.2 cm each. Well, we owe this famous paper that has become an essential part of French school stationery to Jean-Alexandre Seyès, a paper merchant from Pontoise (France).

The Alan Handkerchief

Alan’s Story

Alan is a handkerchief full of finesse, with light and airy patterns, named after Alan Menken, famous composer of “Colors of the wind,” the theme song of Pocahontas. This elegant handkerchief will soften the cold autumn wind, and will fit perfectly in your pockets when you travel. After all, it’s not only Pocahontas who has the right to taste “the thousand colours of the wind”! 

The Banchet Handkerchief

Banchet’s Story

This rich, gorgeous handkerchief with an autumn feel was named Banchet, after the renowned florist based in New York City. Banchet Jaigla is the founder of Banchet flowers and has been celebrated across the world for her contribution to the floral industry, thanks to the uniqueness of her style.

The Vixen Handkerchief

We owe this adorable handkerchief with a red fox pattern in the heart of a blue forest to the talented Lou from Bleu Tango. Cute as can be and full of magic, this pattern created in watercolour by the Parisian artist transported us to the wonderful world of music, to hear the Czech opera “The Cunning Little Vixen” by composer Janáček, whose main character is Vixen.

The Faith Handkerchief

Faith’s Story

Soft, incredibly light, this striped fabric reminds us of sleepwear… Because you just feel like curling up in a ball underneath a blanket and get in cocooning mode! Speaking of cocooning, did you know that the term was coined by marketer Faith Popcorn, in 1987? Needless to say, we thought the name Faith was a great match for this comforting handkerchief.

The Eugene Handkerchief

You already know Eugene’s story, because this lovely blue hanky has been with us for several years now… But we had the pleasure of revisiting the Eugene handkerchief with high quality certified organic cotton lawn—an incredibly soft and silky find which I think you’ll adore!

The Jules Handkerchief

Jules’s Story

We owe to Jules Ferry the obligation for children from 6 to 13 years old to be schooled in France, thanks to the law on compulsory education in primary school, voted in 1882. But what is the link with this poetic handkerchief? The school uniform of the time, often made of light canvas with white embroidery on the left shoulder, which reminds us of the delicate pattern found on our Jules handkerchief!

Louis Alexandre’s Story

The rich and brilliant colour of this beautiful handkerchief reminds us of Grand Marnier, a bitter orange liqueur with hints of Cognac, which we owe to the Marnier Lapostolle family. Created in 1880 by Louis-Alexandre Marnier Lapostolle, Grand Marnier has become a must in the art of mixology!

The Belinda Handkerchief

Belinda’s Story

Belinda is a very absorbent and incredibly soft handkerchief. Inspired by the beautiful blue eyes of Belinda, the famous song by French artist Claude François, this pretty handkerchief promises years of comfort to its partner!
