In 2019, I launched my first reusable paper towels. Back then, they consisted of a single sheet of cotton flannel and were moderately absorbent. But hey, they worked just fine! Over time, as we used them at home and I gathered feedback from generous clients, I managed to make them even better. And today, I have to say I’m quite proud of what they’ve become:
- They look great
- They are insanely absorbent
- They don’t have annoying snaps
- They can be folded and stored or rolled

What are reusable paper towels?
First things first: let’s talk about what reusable paper towels are. Simply put, they are a reusable version of Scott towels (you know the roll people use to mop up just about anything cause it’s conveniently set on the kitchen counters?) FYI, you can also find them under the name of reusable kitchen roll/unpaper towels/paperless paper towels…
What are reusable paper towels made of?
There are a zillion types of reusable paper towels out there. Some brands like to make it with bamboo terry and line it with pretty fabric… Others prefer cotton—superfine, quite thick or even with waffle finish. Everyone has their own formula!
As I mentioned at the beginning of this article—when I first started making reusable paper towels, mine were simply a single sheet of cotton flannel. Quite thin, they were easy to roll or fold and offered decent absorption. But as time went by, I wanted to push the idea further and make kitchen rolls that were even MORE absorbent than disposable Scott towels.
It’s actually after creating my amazing super soft reusable makeup remover pads that I got the idea to work with the same materials to give an extra absorption boost to my reusable paper towels. And that’s how my thick, two-ply, highly absorbent towels were born.
Today, each sheet of reusable paper towel is made with cotton flannel and is lined with oeko-tex certified microfleece, which makes it unbeatable when it comes to dealing with messes. What’s more, the high-quality fabrics I work with are easy to care for and stay in great shape even after many, many washes.
How to use reusable paper towels?
Reusable paper towels can be used as an alternative to disposable Scott towels. But many of our clients use them all over the house (and even in the car!) since they are super absorbent, pleasant to handle and easy to care for. They are a great go to rag for parents of young children, too!

How to clean reusable paper towels?
Just like all our products here at TSHU, our reusable paper towels are super easy to care for. You can toss them in the washing machine with the rest of your laundry at 30 degrees and leave them out to dry in open air.
When I stay mine with something like black coffee, beet juice or orange juice, I usually rinse it under the faucet and rub a little hand soap (like Marseille soap) on it right away so it doesn’t remain stained, before tossing it in the laundry bin.
How to store reusable paper towels?
There are two ways to store your reusable paper towels: neatly folded or rolled like disposable Scott towels.
How to fold reusable paper towels
If I’m travelling, I usually just fold my reusable paper towels in four and pile them up somewhere they’re easy to grab when a mess comes up, like on the kitchen counter. If you store them in a drawer somewhere, chances are they won’t be top of mind when something needs to be addressed quickly! But hey it all depends on what you use them for. If they mostly serve to wipe down kitchen counters or a delicate dining table, that would do just fine.
How to roll reusable paper towels?
Reusable paper towel sheets naturally stick to one another, so it’s quite easy to get them to wrap around your kitchen roll holder. Go one sheet at a time, making sure to start wrapping a little further each time and pat gently to make them stick to one another.
👀 When I do it, it takes me about 1 minute! Take a look👇🏻
How many paper towels fit on a roll?
Since our reusable paper towels are quite thick, 8 sheets are way enough to fill up a standard-sized kitchen roll.
How long do reusable paper towels last?
Hard to tell, because I’ve never had to replace them yet! But so far, we’ve been using ours for more than two years now on a daily basis and they still work amazing and are far from looking tired!
Are reusable paper towels better for the environment?
Definitely! Like all reusable cloth alternatives, you don’t necessarily have to eliminate paper towels completely! I still use recycled paper towels to mop up bacon grease once in a while because I prefer them to cloth paper towels for that use. But 99% of the time, I reach for reusable towels vs. their disposable alternative, because they work just as well (in my opinion, they work even better to mop up spills) and I know that by doing so, I’m creating less waste!
